Third Generation Driver Takes Home $1,000 in Mark Clark Memorial
By Jaime Gregory
Vernon , IN – August 08 – Just when it seemed as if Mother Nature was never going to cooperate with race
tracks in southern Indiana , she finally gave us a break. With it being one of the hottest days of the
summer, one hundred twenty six cars were anxious to get back to racing at Twin Cities Raceway Park in
beautiful Vernon , IN. Saturday night was the make up race for one of Twin Cities' most prestigious events,
the 17th Annual Mark Clark Memorial paying $1,000 to the winner of the UMP Super Stock division.
Columbus, IN’s third generation driver Dustin Petro came on strong all night long, starting out by
being fast qualifier over all and going on to win his heat race. Dustin’s heat race win would make his
starting position for the A-Main on the pole position with Seymour , IN ’s, Jeremy Hines, who has also
proven to everyone that he is a natural behind the wheel, along side. The two would bring the field of
twenty two cars slowly around the track awaiting chief starter Danny Ogle’s green flag to start the thirty lap
A-Main. Petro and Hines would stay side by side at lap one with Petro having the advantage. Petro would
slowly start to pull away from the rest of the pack and putting his first car a lap down at lap number eight.
While Petro was checking out on the field, Petro’s father, Randy, was coming on strong from his sixth
starting position. By lap eight Randy was right on the rear bumper of Hines and would finally get the
advantage on lap eleven to take over the second position. By this time Dustin would have a full straight a
way lead on his father. Dustin went on to take home his first Mark Clark Memorial victory and have his
name added to the list of which his dad has already had his name on five times.
